
GSB School FAQs
We know that choosing the right school for your child can be a big decision. Sifting through websites and brochures might even feel a bit overwhelming – believe us, we understand! To help make your journey a little easier, we've gathered answers to some of the questions we hear most often from interested families.

Our cut off date is December 31st.
If your child turns 3 or 4 on or before December 31st: Preschool
If your child turns 5 on or before December 31st: Kindergarten
If your child turns 6 on or before December 31st: 1st Grade
We can consider making exceptions to our school’s cut-off date for certain children. Please consult with our head of admissions Alyssa Schafer.

Preschool has a teacher:student ratio of 1:12 or less. K-8th grade classes vary in size but average at around 15 students/class.

Our doors open at 8am for all students.
8:30am - 3:30pm: Grades 1 and up
8:45am - 3pm: Preschool/Kindergarten
3:45pm - 5:15pm: After school programming

We offer early drop-off starting at 8am. Afterschool care is available until 5:30pm. Students can sign up for afterschool activities at the start of the school year. Learn more here.

Please take a look at our calendar for exact dates. While we largely align with the DOE calendar, not all dates are the same.

There are no language requirements for applicants in grade 1 or below.
Students in grade 2 and older should have proficient skills in German, as academic subjects are taught in both German and English.

GSB fosters a close-knit community that readily welcomes new students.
Students who join us in later grades are folded into our supportive environment, and they are given a student buddy that helps them during their first days at GSB.

No. However, we do require writing samples in English and German for students applying for grades 6 and higher.

GSB provides comprehensive high school guidance starting in middle school. Our program supports students and families through the high school application process, aiming to make the transition as seamless as possible.

GSB values family involvement and offers a variety of opportunities for parents to contribute to our vibrant community, including volunteering at events, assisting with classroom projects, chaperoning school trips, and more.
