Bilingual Program

A bilingual education provides students with numerous academic, cognitive, and socio-cultural advantages. By learning multiple languages, students develop enhanced problem-solving skills, improved memory, and greater mental flexibility. These cognitive benefits translate into improved academic performance across various subjects, including math, reading, and science.

Academic Benefits

Bilingual students are wired for academic success

Studies consistently demonstrate that bilingual students often outperform their monolingual peers in various academic areas. This superior performance isn't merely a coincidence; it's rooted in a trifecta of cognitive and linguistic benefits that bilingualism fosters:

Improved Language Skills
Enhanced Cognitive Abilities
Increased Metalinguistic Awareness

Learning in two languages encourages students to think critically and creatively. They understand how to approach problems from different perspectives and consider multiple solutions, leading to innovation and adaptability.

Cognitive Benefits

Double the language,
double the brainpower!

Bilingual fluency provides significant cognitive advantages. It enhances executive function skills like attention, working memory, and cognitive flexibility, leading to improved focus, multitasking, and adaptability.

Our bilingual students also demonstrate advanced problem-solving skills which stem from the brain's constant juggling of two languages. This strengthens cognitive control and promotes mental agility.

Socio-cultural Benefits

Cross-cultural competence: Where empathy meets understanding

Dual language classrooms foster cultural appreciation and cross-cultural competence, allowing students to navigate diverse cultural spaces and understand nuances in communication. This environment promotes empathy and emotional intelligence, while also supporting students' identity development. By experiencing different cultures, students become more adaptable, overcome feelings of isolation, and gain a broader awareness of the world around them.

German & Spanish
Language acquisition

German-English Program

GSB provides German immersion from Preschool to 8th grade. Subjects are taught in English or German, using the Montessori method in early grades and an inquiry-based curriculum in middle school (IB MYP).

Spanish-English Program

GSB is thrilled to add a Spanish immersion program to our school, beginning with our Preschool class in September 2025. After a decade of successful German language immersion, we are excited to open our doors, literally and figuratively, to a broader local and global community.
