    ‘23 STUYVESANT HIGH SCHOOL

In what way has GSB prepared you for High School?
GSB introduced me to both frisbee and debate, which I have continued to be passionate about and taught me the skills necessary to succeed at such a rigorous school.

    What languages do you speak?
I speak German and English fluently and I am learning Spanish in school, and Italian and French on my own time.

How are you keeping up with your German?
I am keeping up with German by reading and talking to my family in German. I also occasionally help out the German students at Stuyvesant.

What are your favorite subjects in school?
My favorite is AP Biology because my teacher is incredible and the class is so fun (especially because the AP exam is already over) :)

What are your plans for after school?
My plan is to study philosophy, politics and economics (hopefully at Oxford) and then go on to be a lawyer.

What are you interested in outside of school?
Outside of school I play frisbee, volunteer, and debate, and am interested in politics, history, and economics. I also spend a lot of time reading.

What do you miss about GSB?
I miss the tight knit community and small class sizes!

Any news you would like to share with us?
There have been a few exciting things! My frisbee team (Stuy Girls Ultimate) did well in the NYC High School championship (runner-ups) and I also had a good run in parliamentary debate. I got to finals at a tournament recently and got a top 10 varsity speaker award as a novice!n text goes here

    Mieke N.

    ‘23 LAGUARDIA HIGH SCHOOL

What do you appreciate most about your GSB education?
GSB’s education went much deeper than just filling in bubbles on a test. I learned that there wasn't just one way to get something done, and I think that’s very important. GSB even helped in the social department! Having, for so many years, gone to school with only a small number of classmates, it taught me to hang on to my friends instead of simply ditching them after our first fight. We spent everyday together; there was no ‘sitting at a different lunch table’ or ‘avoiding people in the halls.’ It’s important to believe in the benefit of the doubt!

    What languages do you speak?

English is my native language but I’ve been speaking German since I was very small. I also know a little Spanish and a little French.

How are you keeping up with your German?

Every other Saturday I have a German class with some of my old classmates from GSB. It helps us to keep speaking German regularly.

What are your favorite subjects in school?

My top favorite subject at school is studio art practice. Academically, my favorite class is global history. It’s fascinating!

What are your plans for after school?

Well, I plan on college. I haven’t decided where I want to go yet, but I know I want to either go to art school or get a PhD in Psychology. After college, I want to be a professional artist, in any way, shape, or form. I’m content, as long as I get to make art for the rest of my life!

What are you interested in outside of school?

I really like to go to shows. I like to go to see local bands play because it’s exciting and it makes me feel connected to the city. Sometimes I also go to art museums (admittedly, a lot less frequently than I would like). My favorite is the Met! Other than that I spend most of my time making art or hanging out with friends or watching TV (like Doctor Who!).

What do you miss about GSB?

I miss my pals! We were so tight at GSB!
