Community Service
When students and parents team up to make a difference, like organizing a park cleanup or collecting food for those in need, it opens their eyes to the realities of different communities. Kids learn to work together, figure things out, and even take charge, all while gaining a deeper understanding of socio-economic differences. They see firsthand how their actions can help others, building empathy and a sense of purpose. These experiences create a ripple effect, fostering kindness, community spirit, and personal growth that goes beyond the classroom.
Cultivating compassion
and responsiblity
Service learning is an integral part of our mission to nurture engaged, compassionate, and globally-minded citizens. Together, we inspire students to create a better world—one project at a time.
Extra Sandwich Friday;
A 4th grade initiative
A few years ago, GSB parents Judy and Luisa, along with other dedicated parents, helped organize a food drive with a group of 4th graders. The drive was such a success that it inspired the school community to continue supporting those in need.
Since then, volunteers have been making and delivering sandwiches every Friday.

8th graders & NY Cares;
Winter coat drive initiative
Every year, our 8th graders help to organize a school-wide coat drive. Recognizing the need for warm clothing during the colder months, they rally the school community to donate gently used coats. These coats will be distributed to individuals and families experiencing hardship throughout New York City, helping them stay warm during the winter season.
The students' dedication to helping others exemplifies the spirit of compassion and service within our school community.

Community clean up
Our students actively engage in local clean-up projects to encourage a sense of environmental responsibility and community pride. Whether participating in a street clean-up in Crown Heights or a beach clean-up at Coney Island, our students take hands-on action to care for their surroundings. These initiatives not only teach the importance of environmental stewardship but also empower students to make a tangible, positive impact in our community.

Need help?
GSB’s community loves to lend a hand. Whether engaging with local or global issues, volunteering allows our older students to connect with their community and the wider world on a meaningful level, developing a stronger sense of social responsibility and global awareness.
