Parents Association

Integral to the GSB's success is the unwavering dedication of our Parents’ Association. The GSB PA serves as a vital link between families and the school, facilitating open communication and fostering a strong sense of community. Through their tireless efforts in supporting school activities, fundraising, and encouraging volunteerism, the PA enriches the educational experience for all.

  • Kaeppler is the President of the Parent Association and has been actively involved with the school since 2019. She is the proud mother of two children at the school; a 5th grader and a graduating 8th grader. Originally from the United States, Kaeppler is married to a native of Hannover, Germany. With a background spanning over 20 years in corporate finance, marketing, and employee benefits, she recently transitioned into real estate, focusing on helping local families in Brooklyn find their ideal homes. In her fourth year serving on the Parent Association board, Kaeppler is committed to supporting the school community and fostering connections among families.

  • I’m a proud parent of two children at GSB, a 4th grader and a 1st grader. A longtime Brooklyn resident, I’ve has been part of the GSB community since my oldest child joined in Kindergarten.

The German influence in our family comes from my birth in East Berlin to American diplomats and my husband’s educational experience attending Colegio Alemán Alexander von Humboldt in Mexico City. Together, we’ve come to cherish the whole child approach GSB employs.

Lydia’s spent her entire career working with non-profit organizations on technology strategies and loves to optimize efficiency. Lydia is the board’s VP and also co-chairs the annual Oktoberfest event.

  • I am father of Bernie (3rd grade) and Fritz (K). Born and raised in Stuttgart Germany, moved to NY in 2008. At first I was class parent for our first two years at GSB and then joined the PA board last school year. I work in financial services, love soccer and playing the piano.

  • Father to Eliana (6th grade), we joined the GSB community last year.

I grew up in Germany, studied Physics and worked in a number of European countries in various IT audit roles. After meeting my wife I joined her in Brooklyn in 2010, and we have been living in Crown Heights since 2015.

During our off time we try to be outdoors, and I look forward to reactivating my pilot's license which had been dormant since parental duties took over.

I have been following GSB since inception and experienced our great community from the day our daughter joined.

As GSB's success is the result of all our efforts, I hope to contribute to it by being part of the PA. The next few years will be an exciting period of growth into the upper grades and towards IB.

  • Miriam is the proud parent of two GSB students, one in 3rd grade and the other in Kindergarten. A Maryland native, she attended the German International School of Washington, DC, from PreK through 12th grade, where she developed a lifelong appreciation for the value of community and multilingual education.

Growing up speaking Farsi and later studying French and Arabic, Miriam’s multilingual background has been a driving force in her career in international affairs, including roles with the U.S. Foreign Service and various international organizations.

Drawn to the vibrant GSB community, Miriam and her husband, Till, relocated their family to Brooklyn in 2021. She brings her firsthand experience with language immersion education and a deep commitment to fostering strong school-family connections to her role on the Parents Association Board. As Class Parent Coordinator, Miriam looks forward to helping build closer ties between parents and the school.
