Standardized
Testing
We believe that education is about much more than preparing students for standardized tests. While we recognize the role of assessments in tracking progress, our primary focus remains delivering a well-rounded and engaging curriculum through our thoughtfully designed units of study.
GSB’s approach to tracking student progress
We intentionally limit the time spent on standardized testing to ensure that classroom time is dedicated to deep learning and critical thinking. Overemphasis on standardized testing can lead to rote memorization, test anxiety, and a narrowed curriculum that overlooks creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving—skills essential for success in today’s world. At GSB, we prioritize authentic learning experiences that develop well-rounded, confident learners.
Starting in grade 2, students participate in in-house exams in major subjects, allowing us to assess their understanding and progress in a meaningful and personalized way.
To complement our approach, we will pilot the MAP Growth Assessment in grades 3–8. This adaptive tool will serve as a benchmark and a resource for differentiated instruction, helping teachers tailor their lessons to meet the individual needs of each student.
Our German track students also take the DSD I (Deutsches Sprachdiplom I) exam in 8th grade, an internationally recognized certification of German language proficiency that opens doors to global opportunities and demonstrates their mastery of bilingual communication skills.
Before our Spanish track students graduate from 8th Grade, they will also take a culminating exam.
