GSB students and families celebrated at the Union Temple’s Ballroom with music, dance, and theatrical performances to welcome winter and the upcoming holiday season. Almost 100 students were joined by family members and friends, as well as supporters of the school. Katja Wiesbrock-Donovan, Head of cultural and science affairs of the German consulate general spoke to the children and as an additional surprise our school received an extremely generous book donation by the Central Agency for schools abroad, which was handed over in person by Friederike Braun. The celebration began with cheerful singing in German, English, and Spanish. Grades 1-4 presented dances choreographed by teacher Nora Stephens, and the evening was concluded with student performance of the “Ugly Duckling” tale directed by Simon Geronimo of the Galli Theater. The young performers gained much applause and this being the third year of our traditional Winterfest, we are proud to see the event doubled the amount of attendees once more.
