For the second time parents, teachers, friends and supporters of the German School Brooklyn made their way to Red Hook/Brooklyn to celebrate the Annual Summer Gala at the spacious Liberty Warehouse which offers a spectacular view of Liberty Island. Special Guests included the German Consul General Brita Wagener as well as Brooklyn Deputy Borough President Diana Reyna.
After a the cocktail hour on the patio the school’s board president Jonathan Dorman welcomed a crowd of 200 people inside the dining hall, which was drenched in golden light, combining an orange sunset from afar and fairy lights suspended above the stage. German Cabaret Artist Daniel Isengart lead through the program and announced speakers as well as a film about GSB children and their families. Film maker Thorsten Thielow created a special “Gala-cut” based on a documentary about the school and the room was completed silent when the live testimonials were projected above the dance floor.
The band “Lucy Music” started playing at dessert time and soon all Tarte Tatin was finished and faculty started mixing with families and friends on the dance floor. The night was concluded with a silent auction to benefit the school. A bidding war ensued over a Bayern München jersey, autographed by Jerome Boateng.
