Nora Stephens

nora-optGrades 1-5 Dance/Yoga

I am a dancer, choreographer and educator based in Brooklyn, NY. I have been teaching dance and yoga to people of all ages for over 15 years and enjoy infusing my love of movement into the German School Brooklyn curriculum since its inception in 2014. My goals in teaching are to not only give students the opportunity to find freedom and strength in their bodies but to foster their creativity through movement, improve their collaborative problem solving skills and an inspire an overall love for personal expression and physical fitness.

I was born in Dublin, Ireland and moved to Boston when I was five. I first moved to to NYC in 2001 but then left in 2005 to travel, teach and start my family. I lived in Mexico City and Rio de Janeiro before returning to find Brooklyn home in 2012. My choreographic work has been presented both internationally and nationally, including most notably in NYC at Gibney Dance, Danspace Project Movement Research at the Judson Church and at Dixon Place among various other venues. Among other qualifications, I received an MFA in Dance from Hollins University, Kids Yoga Teacher training at Karma Kids Yoga and Developmental Movement with Ellynne Skove. I also currently teach dance in various public schools around NYC through the non-profit Together in Dance.

It is wonderful to be part of the GSB community both as a mother (Rio, 3rd grade and Caie, 1st grade) and teacher. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions.
